OCCURRENCE & FORMATION
Solnhofener limestone slabs are found in the region around Solnhofen. But how was it formed? During the Upper Jurassic period (about 150 million years ago), the sea regularly flooded lagoons, increasing their salt content. As a result, dead animals and plants didn't decompose and remained as fossils in fine detail.
EXTRACTION & PROCESSING
As early as 2000 years ago, SOLNHOFEN Natural Stone was quarried by hand by the Romans and used as a high-quality building material. The environmentally friendly extraction of this heavily layered stone is still done by hand today. The stone's unique layering makes it unsuitable for heavy machinery, so, just like the Romans did, skilled workers still use hammers and chisels to extract these valuable slabs carefully.
ECOLOGY
SOLNHOFENER Natural Stone is a product made entirely from organic materials, carefully extracted without the use of radiation or chemicals. This stone boasts an exceptional ecological footprint, making it the top choice for builders who prioritize sustainability, environmental consciousness, and aesthetics.
